Ballarat residents now have a clear path to explore the city this July with focused stops around Lake Wendouree and central streets.
July marks the start of consistent cold mornings and shorter days, which pushes people toward nearby walks and indoor spots rather than distant trips. Local tourism figures show a steady rise in short-stay visits within the region during the cooler months.
Start at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens on Wendouree Parade for a morning loop that takes in the conservatory and lake edge. From there move to Lydiard Street North for the Art Gallery of Ballarat, where current exhibitions run through the end of the month. Both sites sit within easy walking distance of Bridge Mall cafes that open at 7am on weekdays.
Entry to the gardens remains free while the gallery charges $12 for adults on weekends. Records from the City of Ballarat show 45,000 visitors used the gardens path in July last year, with numbers expected to climb again this season.
Pack one extra layer and carry a reusable cup for stops at the Saturday farmers market on Sturt Street.
